036 。 I am probably one of the few people who has read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone AFTER the movie came out . The reason is because I didn't find any interest in it at all . But after seeing the movie and find ing it very interesting , I wanted to read the first book to see what is not was like . And I must confess , I found the world of Harry Potter to be rather fun ! Ever since he could remember , Harry Potter had been living with his awful Uncle Vernon , Aunt Petunia , and abominable cousin Dudley . He cannot remember his pare nts and does not know how he came about having the strange lightening scar on his forehead . The n surprising ly , on his 10th birthday , he find s out from the giant Hagrid that he is reall y a wizard ! And not only that , he is now being offered to be enre , alone . I chall ed into Hogwarts School of Wizardry , a very disting uished and best school . The re , Harry makes frien ds Ron Weasely and Hermione Granger and begins to learn the art of wizardry . But something is amiss , something that concerns a mysterious trapdoor guarded by a terrible three-headed dog . And that something has something to do with Voldemore detail about Hagrid , Snape , the evil wizard , and . . . the sorcerer's stone . 。 A totall y enchanting book , it's one of the best fantasies I've ever read . J.K . Rowling has made up a world of imaginati on you could never dream of . Pare nts who are worried about the book s involving wizardry should be warned though in this way . If chil dren cannot under stand that there is a difference between reality and fiction , imaginary places , and magic , I suggest that they should know that . Other than that , I think it's fun for kids to read , mostly around the ages of 8 and or older . I cannot say anything about the oth er book s in the series though because I have yet to read them . But I have to agree with some people who said that the Harry Potter series are n't the best . Lord of the Ring s and The Hobbit are so far the best fantasies ever written of its kind though thes e book s are mostly recommended to older kids and adults . Anoth er series that draws greater attention for all ages are the Chronicles of Narnia by C.S . Lewis ( by the way , writer J.R.R . Tolkien and C.S . Lewis were the greatest of frien ds ! ) . So if you have enjoyed the Harry Potter book s , I greatly recommend all book s by J.R.R . Tolkien and C.S . Lewis .

044 る 。 This book has become very popular in both it's nati ve country ( England ) and also throughout most of the English-speaking world . The story is quite a simple one , based on a chil d's discovery of magic . But beneath the simplicity are themes that are relevent to adults , such as frien dship , growing up , and find ing one's place in the world . Although aimed at chil dren , this book can be enjoyed by both adults and chil dren . I can recommend it as a good way of improving the English read ing skills of high-school chil dren - - and adults too !
049 。 Many Japanese read ers give unconditional praise for this book and its fellows . Is there is a basis for this opinion or it a case of jumping onto the bandwagon ? Yes , it is well-written : it flows nicely , has exciting moments , contains characters and situati ons which appeal to chil dren , and Ms Rowling s has thoughtfully and painstaking ly created an oth er world for read ers to visit . My chil dren and I loved this Cinder ella meets Star Wars in Oz sort of story . But that is not where it should end . The idea is not original . Check out ENDER ` S GAME , for instance . And there are oth er fascinat ing series ` which transport the read er into interesting environs , as well as to cause them to ask questions and think . ( LORD OF THE RINGS / THE HOBBIT , [ JRR Tolkien , ] HIS DARK MATERIALS / THE GOLDEN COMPASS , [ Phil ip Pullman , ] THE DARK IS RISING , [ Susan Cooper , ] REDWALL , [ Brian Jacques , ] LAND OF OZ [ L.Frank Baum , ] to name a few . ) The n there are Rowling s ` talented predecessors , who , especiall y but not neccessarily when one considers when they were written , created far more original , thought-provoking works : Tolkien , again , C.S . Lewis , Madeleine L ` Engle , Roald Dahl , and Ursula LeGuin , etc . in the fantasy genre , alone . I chall enge you to chall enge your mind s with thes e and oth ers , then come back and see if Harry Potter is reall y so out standing . Four stars for the book and the series so far ( five for ` Chamber ` , three for ` Azkaban ` , four for ` Goblet . ` )
