Japanese culture in Philly☆ dear love, philly (univ.)these are photographes i took last yeart at the university of philladelphia!and this is the meals for welcome party.the university has a department for history and one of them is to study japanese and their cultures.students in studying that class have a wide range of knowledged about our culture (more than me!) we were talking about history and also pop culture and so on.some of students here can speak japanese well (because they studied abroad).according to one teacher have taught at that department, said that pop culture is more popular than history or politics nowadays. students are more enthusiastic about animation or manga than any other topics.actually, his focus is on the history in japan, but now he using the books about young culture and even using comics!for me, it is not so surprising to see, because i have known about the japanese culture have became popular among the forginers and especially animation is the one of biggest interests for them.but for teachers, it was disappointed to know students nowadays have more interesting in pop culture (sub culture) than things so-called academic themes. as the times changes, the interests or fashion has changed as the same pace, but in my view, it is glad to see that young people all over the world have feelings to want to know about japanese such as kawaii, or hello kitty.i'll suggest to solution which can be done compromise to both academic and pop culture is that to accept each other and then mix together from perspects of the traditional and new approaches.for that purpose, we have to learn about languages in both countries ( origin and another culture's ) and also about history and politics.and then we will understand both tradition and new culture.i was impressed by students who have a lot of information about japanese animation. and of course i think it is the one of the place where can bridge japanese culture and the world.i hope i'll visit there again for near future.best wishes,

nobel prize winners, including leo esaki, criticized the panel's budget reductions for science and technology projects, saying in a joint statement it runs contrary to the government's aim of making the country a science and technology powerhouse. it is no surprise they made such a criticism.

the cost-cutting panel also recommended the government abolish the children's dream fund, a project that aims to get more children reading books and was established after a campaign by a suprapartisan group of lawmakers following children's reading year in 2000.
the fund has supported about 2,000 projects every year aimed at developing environments in which more books are read to and by children.
next year has been designated national year of reading by a resolution that was unanimously adopted by both chambers of the diet. the government should maintain this project in view of its important role in promoting the culture of the printed word .

however, culture and art will never thrive if they are left to operate on an entirely commercial basis. in the united states and across europe, governments actively support the arts and promote private-sector assistance through tax systems that promote donations.
some say the promotion of culture should be left to local governments, but their culture-related budgets have been eroded by the economic crisis gripping the nation. the central government should draw up a policy that maintains the necessary assistance.
in the education budget, a comprehensive plan for english-language education reform was judged not worth funding.
the panel said the budget for an english-language study guide for primary schoolers should be eliminated, causing dismay among teachers across the country. english-language lessons will become mandatory for all fifth- and sixth-graders in academic year 2011.
the government should move to safeguard key budgets and clarify this stance as soon as possible to prevent unnecessary concern and confusion.
