- The world's top 100 universities, 2010
Cambridge is now the world's top university, according to a new report, which knocks Harvard from the top spot. See how it compares with the world's top 100 universities here• Get the dataHarvard today forfeits first place to the University of Cambridge in a league table of the world's top institutions, the first time in the list's seven year history that the Ivy League university has been knocked off the number one spot. The QS table is based on measures of research quality, graduate employability, teaching and how international the faculties and student bodies are. Harvard was still most popular among the 5,000 employers polled worldwide, but Cambridge was voted best for research quality in a survey of 15,000 academics and took overall first place. The rankings also use citation counts from a database of academic publishing. The Times Higher Education magazine, which is publishing its own global university rankings next week, is no longer collaborating with QS. The magazine is concerned that these rankings rely too heavily on subjective surveys of scholars and employers and not enough on hard indicators of excellence. The THE's new rankings are expected to contain disappointing news for some prestigious British institutions. Some of the key UK losers this year are:• University of Oxford down to 6 from 5 last year• University of Edinburgh, down two places to 22• University of Lancaster, down from 161 to 182However, some are doing better, notably University of Durham, up to 92 from 103 last year. Thanks to QS, we've got the top 100 for you to play with - you can download it below. - Entrepreneur: China's private enterprises have not hit bottom
China's private enterprises are in economic crisis now, but they have not bottomed out yet, said Yan Jiehe, the chairman of the board of directors of Huatuo Wisdom Int'l Group and who ranked second on Hurun China's richest list in 2005. China's private economy should experience an eight-year period of adjustment and fluctuations to get back normal, Yan told a delegation from Harvard University in a speech on March 15 about the state of private investment in China.

- A clash of views on China investment boom
The Chinese economy, we are constantly told, is being threatened by massive overinvestment. In recent months, dozens of prominent commentators from New York hedge fund manager James Chanos to Harvard University professor and former International Monetary Fund chief economist Kenneth Rogoff have sounded warnings about the danger. They argue that last year's credit-fuelled investment boom has exacerbated China's existing industrial overcapacity and inflated a dangerous bubble in the property market.

- Leaving the door open on migration | Ike Anya
The UK government needs to recognise one-way migration has little relevance to the aspirations of African health workersAt medical school in Nigeria they trained us to be the best: the best surgeons, the best physicians, the best doctors. Our professors spoke glowingly of their time at Harvard, at Guy's. Yet five years after graduation, having worked in urban and rural hospitals in Nigeria, I was frustrated. Frustrated by the mismanagement of the meagre resources available, the numerous avoidable deaths, the limited opportunities for training and development, the irregular pay. I was stagnating, losing my skills and focus. Like many before me I faced a decision: to continue to struggle to build up a faltering health system; to seek professional opportunities elsewhere; or to leave medicine.I chose to leave Nigeria. I didn't plan to migrate permanently but the opportunities in the UK were too great and going home seemed the wrong choice. Four years after arriving I hoped to move back and work for a year. I found it hard in the UK and missed home. But the pathway was inflexible and it felt too risky. If I returned there was no way to tell whether I would get stuck in the same rut that forced me to leave. Moving back permanently just seemed too daunting: too much of a gamble.Nine years on and I still feel guilty and question my decision. I want to help but I don't want to lose my job to do it. With a friend I started a blog, Nigeria Health Watch, and the Nigerian Public Health Network, but it takes all the time I have. I wish it were easier for me to share my skills. It seems all or nothing with migration. You either stay or you go. Very rarely can you reach a middle ground. This is a mistake. Giving African health workers in my position the flexibility to share our skills, 英国政府は、一方向への移行を認識する必要があるアフリカの保健workersAtの願望に少しの関連性をナイジェリア彼らは私たちは、最高:最高の外科医、最高の医師、最高の医師に訓練を受けた医療学校しています

- The Milk of Sorrow
The slums of Lima are the setting for an exploration of women's woeThis movie, directed by the Barcelona-based niece of the Peruvian novelist Mario Vargas Llosa, deals with the aftermath of the appalling civil war in the 1980s between Peru's repressive rightwing government and the mad Maoist revolutionaries of the Shining Path, the subject of John Malkovich's directorial debut, The Dancer Upstairs. The traumatised heroine Fausta was conceived during the multiple rape of her peasant mother. Nearly two decades later, living in the slums of Lima, she wants to take her mother's body back to her native village. But no one talks of the war and everything conspires against her. The picture is inspired by a study of the effects of the war on Peruvian women by a Harvard anthropologist, which apparently deals with the mythology of grief and suffering from a feminist perspective. While it paints a vivid picture of day-to-day life in the lower depths of Lima, it's a curiously opaque and unrevealing film.World cinemaDramaPeruJohn MalkovichPhilip Frenchguardian.co.uk © Guardian News & Media Limited 2010 | Use of this content is subject to our Terms & Conditions | More Feeds

If not for the terror attacks of 9/11, it's unlikely that Caitlin Sarubbi would be either a Paralympic-level ski racer, or a Harvard University student aiming at becoming a sports physician.Sarubbi, 20, raced in the Paralympics here as a member of the USA Paralympic alpine team, in events for the visually-impaired.
