- China pledges to enhance sugar market regulations after price hits record high
China's Ministry of Commerce (MOC) vowed to step up regulation of sugar markets on Sunday after reserves helped stabilize prices which recently rose to a record high amid continuing harsh weather.
Between Oct. 10-17, the retail price of small-packed sugar averaged 7.68 yuan per kilogram in major cities, up 1.3 percent from the end of September, according to data provided by the MOC.

- Construction starts on southwest China high-speed rail link
Construction began Monday on a high-speed railway linking southwest China's Chongqing Municipality and Chengdu, capital of Sichuan Province, said Wu Yong, director of Chengdu Railway Bureau.
The project was scheduled to take four years, and the 308 km high-speed link would halve the two-hour travel time between the two cities.

- China Eastern to launch new air service between Kunming, Dubai
China Eastern Airlines will launch new air service from the southwestern Chinese city of Kunming, the capital of Yunnan Province, to Dubai on Feb. 22, the company said Saturday.
