we are going to make a shift from an old-television system to a new one. on july 24, almost all people except those living in the quake-hit areas have to change into a new television, called the digital terrestrial television (chijo dejitaru terebi, 地上デジタルテレビ in japanese). we call it chideji (地デジ) for short, letting each character shortened. we are going to dump crt-based televisions if they have, and we need the high-tech television, which is a digital television. (at present, we can use both the systems to watch a program, but the old system will be no more available a few days away.) the transition campaign had been broadcast over the past two or three years. in my view, the time has almost come. it s coming soon, like a countdown toward a certain occasion.
