    • Standard: Inverse Copper-Dollar Relationship Breaking Down
(Kitco News) -- The traditional inverse correlation between LME copper and the U.S. dollar has broken down, says Standard Bank. Historically, dollar weakness helps commodities by making them less expensive in other currencies. “There are however episodes of time where this relationship breaks down completely and even turns positive,” Standard says. “The latest data suggests that this is indeed the case at the moment, with copper’s relationship with the strength of the dollar moving from strongly negative into positive territory for the first time since May 2010.” This is due to several factors. Concern over the strength of U.S. economic revival is complicated by weaker-than-expected growth in China and anxiety over euro-zone debt. There also was a recent spate of declines in global manufacturing PMIs. “A sluggish pace of economic expansion and weaker near-term fundamental outlook appears to be weighing on outright prices and offsetting the impact of a weaker dollar,” Standard says. “That’s not to say a stronger dollar won’t see prices come under pressure, however, dollar weakness, against a subdued economic backdrop, appears less likely to have such a positive impact on copper and other base metals prices than it had back in late 2010.” (Kitcoニュースは) - 故障したのLME銅と米ドルの間の伝統的な逆相関、スタンダード銀行を言う

    • Car bomb blasts eastern Pakistan city
20 people killed and scores wounded in Faisalabad, a seldom-targeted city in Punjab provinceA car bomb has exploded in a neighbourhood full of government buildings in eastern Pakistan, killing 20 people and wounding scores of others, officials said. An office of Pakistan's state-run airline and a local petrol station were damaged in the blast in Faisalabad city. The explosion underscored the tenuous security situation in Pakistan. Such attacks have often been chalked up to militants retaliating to army offensives against them.Senior government official Tahir Hussain said that 20 people died in the blast. The car bomb apparently triggered a gas cylinder to also explode at the station, adding to the destruction, Faisalabad police chief Aftab Cheema said. Police offices as well as the Pakistan International Airlines building are located nearby.Pakistani TV showed piles of bricks and chunks of twisted metal from cars strewn across the neighbourhood. Rescue workers struggled to pull victims out of the rubble. More than 100 people were wounded, police official Liaquat Ahmed said. Most attacks carried out by Islamist militants in Pakistan occur in the north-west regions near the border with Afghanistan, and targets are usually police or other security forces.Faisalabad, 160 miles (260km) south of Islamabad, is a key hub for Pakistan's textile industry and it has rarely been targeted. However, it lies in Punjab province, where Islamist extremist groups are believed to be growing in strength.PakistanTalibanguardian.co.uk © Guardian News & Media Limited 2011 | Use of this content is subject to our Terms & Conditions | More Feeds

    • Warsaw residents prepare to flee as Vistula river floods
100,000 in Polish capital at risk of having homes flooded after 14 dies following delugeSome 100,000 residents of Warsaw risk having their homes flooded by the Vistula river, the mayor of the Polish capital has warned as the nationwide death toll from the deluge rose to 14.People must be ready to flee if the situation worsens, Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz said. Schools were closed and a major road was blocked. The river has breached its bank in one spot, but damage was limited in the uninhabited area.Poland is suffering its worst flooding in decades, hitting the south last week after heavy rains engorged rivers leading north towards the Baltic sea.Rescuers are struggling to strengthen the banks of the river, while sappers have blasted part of an embankment near the central village of Dobrzykow to prevent water from reaching residential areas. Some 4,000 people and 5,000 animals were evacuated from their homes around the nearby city of Plock, after the Vistula burst its banks and inundated 20,000 acres .Poland's interior ministry said it had assigned 152m zlotys (£32m) for people hardest hit by the flood and each household would receive 6,000 zlotys to secure basic supplies of food and clothing. The prime minister, Donald Tusk, said his government would discuss possible additional aid for flood victims tomorrow. Authorities in neighbouring Germany have warned the Oder river may start flooding as the waters pour in from Poland.PolandNatural disasters and extreme weatherguardian.co.uk © Guardian News & Media Limited 2010 | Use of this content is subject to our Terms & Conditions | More Feeds 100,000は、ポーランドの首都を有する住。
