Republican governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, announced Davis's appointment, a Democrat, to the commission on the status of women yesterday. The commission works with Schwarzenegger to promote equality and justice for women and girls. Davis's appointment requires confirmation by the California state senate. Director Kathryn Bigelow added the Oscar to her haul of awards for The Hurt Locker (which includes the Bafta). Ex-husband James Cameron will have to content himself with the Golden Globe, the only major directing award Avatar has won.Here at the Datablog we've tracked film award nominations and winners in all the main categories, including best actor and actress, director, film and screenplay. Those categories that have been left out, like cinematographer, short film and editing, have been ignored because they aren't presented in sufficient award ceremonies to warrant a comparison. In a break from the pattern set by the other awards, the adapted screenplay nod went not to Up In The Air but to Geoffrey Fletcher for Precious. The Academy also awarded the foreign film statue to The Secret in Their Eyes, rather than A Prophet, which has triumphed elsewhere.Otherwise, the Oscars were fairly predicatable. Jeff Bridges, who has won nearly every award going this year for Crazy Heart, walked away with the best actor statue, while Sandra Bullock took best actress for drama The Blind Side (her second award in 24 hours - she claimed the Golden Raspberry for All About Steve on Saturday night). The Oscar-winning actor and theatre impresario is taking the plunge into the Chinese movie market with a leading role in Inseparable, a wholly locally financed productionThe Oscar-winning actor Kevin Spacey is to become the biggest Hollywood star ever to appear in a Chinese film production. Spacey has signed on to take a leading role in the black comedy Inseparable as a mysterious American expat who befriends a troubled young Chinese man, Variety reports.The Chinese film industry and Hollywood have co-financed movies starring the likes of Ed Norton, Willem Dafoe and Donald Sutherland, but Inseparable marks the first occasion where a wholly locally financed production has starred an actor of Spacey's renown.The film will be shot in Mandarin and English. Daniel Wu will play the lead, with Beibi Gong as his wife, an investigative reporter. Dayyan Eng, a Beijing-based US national who shot the Chinese cult hit Waiting Alone, is directing from his own script. Shooting is planned to start later this month in the south of the country.Spacey, who will also take an executive producer's role on Inseparable, is taking the plunge into an increasingly important movie market. China has a growing appetite for films, including Hollywood product. A quota system that allows only 20 foreign films into the country each year is currently frustrating US efforts to capitalise on demand.
