air china (0753), the country's second-largest carrier, expects to return to profit
this year as economic stimulus efforts kick in and help revive domestic air traffic.
talking at an aviation conference in beijing yesterday, chairman kong dong also said
air china was on a solid foundation, which will see it through the global economic downturn.
it's very possible that air china can turn back in profit this year, said jack xu,
a shanghai-based analyst at sinopac securities. its passenger traffic numbers had
a big rebound in the first four months.
and a morgan stanley report noted: air china's first quarter profit recovered strongly
from a record loss for 2008, led by lower jet fuel cost, the reversal of fuel hedging losses,
and a refund in caac infrastructure fund. industry-wise, we are turning more bullish on
china's air traffic growth driven by resilient domestic demand.
