Two people have been killed and five others are missing in Japan's northeast Niigata and Fukushima prefectures due to torrential rain, local media reported Saturday.
About 9,000 people have evacuated out of some 400,000, who were asked to do so, Kyodo News reported.
The Igarashi River in Niigata's Sanjo flooded, and leading local authorities evacuated 10,000 residents nearby. On top of that, 11 cities and two towns in the prefecture told 380,000 people to evacuate, Kyodo said.
