    • Jobs Go Unfilled, Gen Y Waiting on a Sign
Grant Cordone has the chiseled face of a Hollywood actor. Then again, maybe he’s using a stunt double on his web site. But looks aren’t what you need if you are one of the seventeen million recent college grads looking for work. What you need is sound advice.  Fortunately, Cordone, who bills himself as a sales savant, is willing to share his job-seeking tips. In a hurried phone interview Cordone told me that those seventeen million recent college grads looking for work aren’t likely to find it, mainly because they aren’t looking in the right places if they are looking at all. Now there’s a piece of old-fashioned cheer-me-up-news! It’s almost as if Gen Y is waiting for a sign from Heaven that it’s job season again.Seventeen million new jobs. That’s a tall order. But Cordone says the news really does get better. If you are one of the seventeen million, there’s no need to look for seventeen million jobs for your seventeen million un- or under-employed roommates. Nope. You just have to find one! Feeling better?Cordone says finding a new, interesting Job with a reasonable salary and bennies isn’t that complicated.  All you have to do is get in front of the boss—not HR, not the supervisor—the boss.  (The man or woman whose name is on the pole sign out front.)“Never, ever send a resume,” says Cordone. Why?  Because there are seventeen million other resumes floating in the ethernet and they all say the same thing and look the same.  And if yours is just one of the seventeen million, you are going to be treated just like them. And how are they being treated? Like the unemployed that they are! You can be unemployed , too!  But if that’s your plan, how about a new plan?”Target 4-6 bosses and do whatever it takes to get in front of them—live, in person _NULL_

    • Ozzie Guillen, Jeffrey Loria, And The Art Of Perception
The Miami Marlins have suspended manager Ozzie Guillen for five games for professing his love of Cuban dictator, Fidel Castro, in an article that appeared in Time magazine. The Marlins’ move came in response to Miami’s very vocal Cuban exile population’s immediate negative reaction to Guillen’s comments. The suspension shouldn’t have come as a surprise: It’s an attempt by Marlins’ owner, Jeffrey Loria, to manage the perception of his franchise. _NULL_

    • The Five Highest-Paid NHL Players Not In The Playoffs
The NHL's top playmakers are paid millions of dollars each season with the hopes that they can carry their teams to playoff success. For the Florida Panthers, who added nearly $10 million in player costs this season, increased spending paid off in the form of the franchise's first ever division title. But some teams had more disappointing seasons, and their all-star caliber contracts did not translate to playoff appearances. null, responseDetails: Suspected Terms of Service Abuse. • LA Boxing Looks To Cash In On Popularity Of MMA
LA Boxing is a franchisor that blends the offerings of a traditional health club with those of a boxing gym. The company has been around for 20 years and has 71 gyms. Although LA Boxing has traditionally chosen a strategy of steady profits over rapid expansion, it has recently looked to cash in on the growing popularity of mixed martial arts and depressed real estate market  (where its franchisees can lease space at relatively low prices) by expanding in high net worth areas like New York City. null, responseDetails: Suspected Terms of Service Abuse. As I write this thousand of folks are gearing up to go to the movies tonight to see the film they've all been waiting for: The Hunger Games. The Los Angeles Dodgers announced late Tuesday night that the team was being sold to Guggenheim Baseball Management for $2 billion. The deal shatters the previous record for a franchise sale price, which occurred in 2005 when the Glazer family purchased Manchester United for $1.5 billion. • Innovation Secrets from Domino's Pizza
The other night, I saw a new Domino?s Pizza commercial that I thought carried an important message for leaders. The ad tells the story of a new product that was dreamed up by a franchise store owner in a small town in Ohio and is now being sold at locations across the country. ?A great idea can come from anywhere,? says Patrick Doyle, the CEO of Domino?s. While a bit tongue-in-cheek, the commercial reveals an essential leadership lesson: seek input from your front-line employees. They know your customers the best, and they often have valuable insights for new and innovative ways of growing your business. null, responseDetails: Suspected Terms of Service Abuse. • Where Will Tim Tebow End Up?
Seems as if John Elway got his wish. And it’s a twofer. ESPN is reporting that the Denver Broncos will sign Peyton Manning. Elway, the Broncos vice president for football operations, gets his franchise quarterback. And he will somewhat gracefully be able to get rid of that constant burr in his saddle named Tim Tebow, whom he never quite warmed up to, even when the Jockey pitchman—adored by Broncos fans—was leading his hobbled team to the playoffs last season. null, responseDetails: Suspected Terms of Service Abuse.
