    • Learning To Herd Cats
Do teams really work? One reader wrote to me: I keep having doubts about the perfect working world you describe, where nobody ever has ambitions that override consideration of other people, where nobody plays internal politics, where nobody has been wrongly hired and where everyone has the authority they need which arises through consensus and team.. He continued: Teams worked for a period in my firm while I had a supportive boss. But then he left and his successor quickly closed things down and it all went back to the old way of controlling individuals. Still another wrote: In my experience, putting people in teams leads to lots of well meaning and motivated people rush off and do similar things differently, in an uncoordinated way, burning resources as they go, forgetting to reflect and learn from each other delivering expensive, inefficient, inconsistent organizations and services. What we need is a way of herding cats. Getting work done in teams often feels like it is akin herding cats: i.e. mission impossible. In effect, do teams actually work with the imperfect human beings that people organizations with all their doubts, fears, ambitions, jealousies, and personal problems? The long, sad history of teams in organizations Ever since Mary Parker Follett was talking about teams and the human factor at Harvard and Oxford in the 1920s, leaders have kept “discovering” teams and the human factor with great fanfare. This includes Elton Mayo and Chester Barnard in 1930s, Abraham Maslow in the 1940s, Douglas McGregor in the 1960s, Tom Peters and Robert Waterman in the 1980s, and Smith and Katzenbach in the 1990s. “Teams and the human factor” are often presented as “the big new thing”, when the idea has been around for close

    • South Park's Mormon musical should come to the West End | Phelim O'Neill
Messrs Parker and Stone may love lampooning the religious, but their satire is always respectful – at least to things made in heaven rather than earthA stage musical about Mormon missionaries written by the creators of South Park sounds, at first, like something designed with the express purpose of causing controversy. Like many of the projects undertaken by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, however, it sounds far more scandalous than it actually is – and is actually very respectful to religious beliefs. They may take shots at how beliefs are presented by believers, or at how non-believers have a hard time accepting any faith's more outlandish concepts, but fundamental tenets remain unscathed by their piercing wit. They'll mock anything earthly, in other words, but the spiritual they tend to leave well alone. For, as the Monty Python team realised when writing Life of Brian, despite the many faults of his many followers Jesus (who does appear in the new musical) is basically one of the good guys. With rumours that the show, which has been winning awards on Broadway, is set to come to the West End, what should we expect? Religion and musicals have long been integral parts of Parker and Stone's comedy, even since their first major project together: the zero-budget student movie Cannibal! The Musical, which included Mormon travellers in its spoofery. Given that they were raised and schooled in Colorado – not far from Utah, where approximately 60% of the population are followers of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – Mormonism is not a religion they merely viewed from afar. Their next feature film, the sporadically hilarious Orgazmo, featured Parker as a martial-arts expert Mormon missionary who ends up becoming the titular porn star (he's trying to raise money to g 各氏パーカーとストーンは、宗教を風。

    • Say Goodbye To 'Fake' Celebrity Endorsements!
Some companies think that simply to have a celebrity in an advertisement, holding a product, that the product will sell.  Nikon has Ashton Kutcher, Cover Girl has Taylor Swift, and Garnier has Sarah Jessica Parker. But do those celebrities actually use the products they seemingly endorse? Probably not. And consumers know it today. They're more likely not to buy products because of those endorsements. They feel betrayed. Authenticity is the key to capture the heart of today's consumer. That's why PepsiCo Gatorade and FRS refuse to hire celebrities who have never used their products or don't like them. FRS in fact, requires each to have a true, authentic story behind their passion for the FRS products. Take a look: 一部の企業は単に製品を販売することは、製品を保持して、広告に有名人を持っていると考えています

The much-talked about, yet elusive Fisker Karma made a splashy appearance at the Monaco Grand Prix over the weekend, marking the electric super car's European debut for the highly regarded Formula One race. • How To Think Like A Chinese Communist Party Security Official
In 2011, it seems like time has speeded up. There have been revolutions in Tunisia, Egypt, and civil war in Libya which has now drawn in Nato air forces to support the Libyan rebels fighting against Col. Qaddafi's government based in Tripoli. In early March, there was the earthquake and tsunami which later evolved into the most serious nuclear crisis since Chernobyl which hit Japan causing, as of this writing, an estimated loss of US$250B to the Japanese economy. 時間がスピードアップしたように、2011年にように思える

    • Rumors Of RIM's Demise Greatly Exaggerated, Says Analyst
It seems like the conventional wisdom these days is that the smartphone fight is down to Apple's iPhone and devices running Google's Android operating system. • Letter: Our fears for the fate of Ai Weiwei
We write as a matter of urgency regarding the arbitrary detention of the Chinese artist Ai Weiwei (Report, 7 April). We and many Chinese and other friends are very concerned at the Chinese government's behaviour towards its own citizens. Ai Weiwei's position is that he firmly believes in the freedom of speech and the right to speak up on behalf of others who have been brutally silenced for their efforts to change society for the better. As an immediate priority we urge governments to exert strong pressure on China to treat its citizens with respect as a matter of basic justice and humanity. At this stage of China's development as a country taking an increasing part in world affairs, it is crucial that we make it clear that China's credibility in the world is at stake if it does not significantly improve its human rights record. For example, another artist, Wu Yuren, was released in Beijing on 3 April after being detained for nearly 11 months without trial. His wife and child were left in a state of great anxiety for his safety and welfare and he had committed no crime. Liu Xiaobo has been handed an 11-year sentence as a writer who expressed the need for constitutional reform in the Chinese political system. He has effectively been removed from society for more than 10 years for expressing his views. We are concerned that the same fate awaits Ai Weiwei. We urge the UK government to treat this case as an urgent priority and to press for his immediate release.Katie Hill (Curator and Lecturer, Chinese Contemporary Art)Cai Yuan (Artist)Ma Jian (Author, Beijing Coma)Jung Chang (author, Wild Swans)Jon Halliday (Historian)Craig Clunas (Professor of Art History, University of Oxford)Michael Stanley (Director, Modern Art Oxford)Jayne Parker (Head of Graduate Fine Art Media, Slade Sc 我々は、中国人アーティストアイウェイウェイの恣意的な拘禁(レポート年4月7日)に関する緊急の問題として書いてください
